Porsche will use the powerful and efficient 333-horsepower, 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 that is paired with a 47-hp electric motor. Aside from the ability to drive on electric-only power at speeds of almost 40 miles per hour, the Cayenne S Hybrid also features a 'sailing' feature that allows for further fuel conservation by completely shutting off or disengaging the engine from the drivetrain at speeds up to 97 mph. For improved performance, the hybrid system will also help boost the engine's output under heavy acceleration which should allow the Cayenne to accelerate surprisingly fast as the system combines for a total of 428 lb-ft of torque at just 1,000 rpm. This system uses a 288-volt nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery pack mounted under the rear cargo area.

Keep checking back with us at Brian Harris Porsche as we bring you the latest details, release dates and other information on the redesigned 2011 Porsche Cayenne and Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid!

*details provided by autotropolis.com

Porsche Celebrates 60 years in North America

With a new sedan, an upcoming hybrid and one of the most beautiful concept vehicles in recent history, it seems that Porsche has plenty to celebrate lately, but it won't be passing on an opportunity to celebrate a major milestone. Since the first Porsche cars were sold in the United States in the fall of 1950, the company has since become renowned for its styling, performance and luxury over the last 60 years all thanks to the collective efforts of three men. Dr. Ferdinand "Ferry" Porsche (son of the company's founder), Max Hoffman and Jonny von Neumann all formed the foundation for a successful Porsche brand in North America starting with the sporty and iconic Porsche 356.

Ferry Porsche had extremely low expectations for Porsche sales in the U.S. hoping for just five sales in the first year, but Hoffman, already a seasoned European car importer, had bigger plans in store. Even though the 356 only produced 44 horsepower from its 1.1-liter flat-four engine and cost as much as a luxurious Cadillac convertible, Porsche says that Hoffman went on to sell 32 356s in 1951 and a total of 11 per week by 1954. Hoffman later helped design the iconic black, gold and red Porsche crest that prominently displays a prancing horse.

Although the first Porsches were sold in New York, California quickly became, and still remains, one of the more popular areas for Porsche sales thanks in large part to von Neumann. Like Hoffman, von Neumann was an instant fan of Porsche and began selling them in California. One of von Neumann’s more famous customers was James Dean who bought a 356 Speedster and later traded it for a 550 Spyder - the same car he was tragically killed in. The Porsche 550 Spyder is shown above in black and white next to the image of the all-new 2010 Porsche Boxster Spyder.

Growing from the single-model line that it originally offered, Porsche has since grown to its current lineup of five vehicles that include the Porsche 911, Porsche Boxster, Porsche Cayenne, Porsche Cayman and Porsche Panamera. Not only that, it laps the Nürburgring in less than 7 minutes 30 seconds, which means it's even faster than the coveted Porsche Carrera GT. When it comes to how 'green' the vehicle is, Porsche says that, when driven accordingly, the plug-in hybrid 918 Spyder Concept gets an amazing 78 mpg, with an emissions level of only 70 grams of C02 per kilometer.

The 918 Spyder Concept is powered by a high-output V-8 3.4-liter engine found in the Porsche RS Spyder racing car. In 918 Spyder form, this mid-mounted engine powers out more than 500 bhp. Electric motors at the front and rear axles add an additional 218 horsepower to its power-packed performance. The V-8's power, and the rear electric motor, reaches Concept's rear wheels via a 7-speed PDK gearbox. The drive to the front wheels is pure electric. The liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack behind the cockpit can be charged at home, or by brake regeneration.

Modernity is addressed via the center console, which has a touch screen for what Porsche calls "intuitive" control of the car's functions. Another cool feature is the 918 Spyder Concept is the Range Manager. Using the map in the satellite navigation system, the Range Manager displays the remaining range the Spyder is able to cover. And in cities, it will tell you if you can reach your destination on electric power alone.

Stay tuned in to Brian Harris Porsche for more Porsche news and the latest special offers!

*content and image courtesy of http://autos.yahoo.com/auto-shows/geneva_auto_show_2010

911 GT3 R Hybrid's World Debut in Geneva

The 911 GT3 R Hybrid is a perfect example of the Porsche Intelligent Performance philosophy, a principle to be found in every Porsche: More power on less fuel, more efficiency and lower CO2 emissions – on the track and on the road.

With Porsche's 911 GT3 R with innovative hybrid drive making its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, Porsche takes up another visionary driving concept into the future. The innovative hybrid technology featured in the car has been developed especially for racing, standing out significantly in its configuration and components from conventional hybrid systems. In this case, electrical front axle drive with two electric motors developing 60 kW each supplements the 480-bhp four-litre flat-six at the rear of the 911 GT3 R Hybrid. A further significant point is that instead of the usual batteries in a hybrid road car, an electrical flywheel power generator fitted in the interior next to the driver delivers energy to the electric motors.

The flywheel generator is charged whenever the driver applies the brakes, with the two electric motors reversing their function on the front axle and acting themselves as generators. Then, whenever necessary, that is when accelerating out of a bend or when overtaking, the driver is able to call up extra energy from the charged flywheel generator, the flywheel being slowed down electromagnetically in the generator mode and thus supplying up to 120 kW to the two electric motors at the front from its kinetic energy. This additional power is available to the driver after each charge process for approximately6 - 8 seconds.

Energy formerly converted – and thus wasted – into heat upon every application of the brakes, is now highly efficiently converted into additional drive power.
Depending on racing conditions, hybrid drive is used in this case not only for extra power, but also to save fuel. This again increases the efficiency and, accordingly, the performance of the 911 GT3 R Hybrid, for example by reducing the weight of the tank or making pitstops less frequent.

content and image courtest of www.porsche.com/usa

Porsche’s quest for speed never ends…

When the Porsche GT9 supercar hit 254 mph last year setting the official world record for the fastest speed on street-legal tires, it was considered a significant milestone. But as far as Porsche is concerned, that's already history and the future has already taken shape.

Brian Harris Porsche, your premier Porsche dealer in the Baton Rouge region is excited to bring you some thrilling bit of news!

This year, the 9ff is back with the new GT9-R that should hit 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds, then 186 mph in 15.8 seconds on its way to a top speed of 257 mph to claim the production car world record. And the GT9-R does it with only six cylinders.

The heavily modified, turbocharged 4.0L boxer six-cylinder motor will be seen in three levels starting at 750 hp, then 987 hp, and finally the full 1120 hp. This makes the base car good for a top speed of 236 mph and the mid-range build capable of a top speed of 254 mph. And the engine can be upgraded to the next power level at any time!

Stay tuned with Brian Harris Porsche for more updates happening at Porsche! Porsche knows this better than any other automaker. That's why after breaking Bugatti Veyron's speed record by hitting 254 mph last year, Porsche comes back with its new GT9-R Supercar to eclipse the all-time record, that's currently holding by SSC Ultimate Aero, to claim the title once and for all. Brian Harris Porsche, the leading Porsche dealer in Baton Rouge and New Orleans Louisiana is proud to bring you this latest Porsche news and is excited to witness the moment when the new GT9-R Supercar touches the speed barrier of 257 mph to claim the production car world record.

The astounding fact is that, GT9-R Supercar is making its speed record breaking attempt with only six cylinders. The heavily modified, turbocharged 4.0L boxer six-cylinder motor will deliver 1120 hp in the top-of-the-line trim level. The power is transferred to the wheels either through a six-speed manual or a six-speed sequential automatic. However, the 750-hp base model's engine is paired with a five-speed Tiptronic automatic. Loosely based on the Porsche 911, the GT9-R features lightweight construction throughout, from its tube frame to its carbon-Kevlar body and will be outfitted with the interior the way you want to pay for it.

Visit Brian Harris Porsche to learn more about the new Porsche GT9-R Supercar. Porsche picks only the best cars and does a meticulous 100+-point inspection and rigorous reconditioning process before giving the 'pass' certificate. To be eligible, the vehicle must be no older than 8 years from the original in-service date and have less than 100,000 accumulated miles on the odometer. The program also offers two distinct limited Porsche warranty coverage.

Limited warranty covers up to 6-years / 100,000-miles - whichever comes first and providing that the vehicle is still under the new car limited warranty.

Limited warranty that covers 2-years / 50,000-miles - depending on which comes first, based on the date of the sale and to a total of 100,000-miles.

You can also enjoy a roadside assistance program for the duration of the Porsche Approved limited warranty coverage. With this, the difference between a brand new car and a certified pre-owned Porsche has become quite undistinguishable.

Visit Brian Harris Porsche to learn more about the Porsche Approved pre-owned vehicle program. The all-new 911 GT3 RS, with its new exterior design, flashy interior, stability enhancing technologies and powerful engine truly lives up to its sporting credentials. Brian Harris Porsche, the leading dealer of new Porsche and used cars in Baton Rouge and New Orleans Louisiana is proud to bring you more details on the new 911 GT3 RS.

At the onset, the new GTR3 RS announces the difference from 911 GT3 with the new bold exterior design. The striking visual feature of contrasting paintwork and the fixed rear wing won't go unnoticed and with a wider rear and front axle, the GT3 RS gives greater stability and improved cornering. The effective aerodynamic styling reflects its motorsport origin. The blazing fast performance of the new 911 GT3 RS is attributed to the six cylinder Boxer engine with 3.8-liter displacement and enhanced VarioCam timing that delivers a whopping 450 hp at 7,900 rpm and 317 lb-ft at 6,750 rpm. The engine paired with a manual six gear transmission takes the car from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds with a top track speed of 193 mph.

Inside the car, everything is designed around the driver to be within reach. Once you enter the cabin you can find the extensive use of genuine leather and Alcantara and other high-quality materials. Sports bucket seats come standard with folding back rest, integrated throax airbag and manual adjustment of fore/aft position. Dynamic engine mounts, Porsche Stability Management (PSM), Porsche Active Suspension Management and advanced brake system are the other noted features.

Visit Brian Harris Porsche to learn more about the 911 GT3 RS and other Porsche models. The 'Porsche Approved' tag promises you a new car experience in a certified pre-owned Porsche and also offers two distinct limited warranty coverages. With this, the difference between a brand new car and a certified pre-owned Porsche has become quite indistinguishable.

The Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned warranty program has also won Intelli-Choice's best CPO Warranty Awards in the luxury class for 2009. The evaluation considers all aspects of a CPO warranty, including the amount of benefits beyond the new car warranty, total amount of warranty, deductibles, areas covered, and at what point the warranty begins. Porsche offers 6-years and 100,000-miles, which is 2-years and 50,000-miles above and beyond the new car warranty. The Porsche warranty has no deductible, is a true extension of the Porsche new car warranty, and even offers 2-years and 100,000 total miles of coverage for those vehicles purchased that are outside of the warranty.

Not all Porsche cars earn the "Porsche Approved" title. Porsche picks only the best cars and does a meticulous 111-point inspection and rigorous reconditioning process before giving the 'pass' certificate. The standard sound system has been augmented with a five-inch display screen and the unit can now play CDs as well as MP3 computer files.

Elsewhere, changes should add luster to the Boxster's reputation as one of the most competent sports cars around. The Boxster's stability-control system helps prevent a skid or spin, and will now pre-load the brakes when the accelerator pedal is suddenly released (indicative of an emergency-stopping situation) by moving the pads closer to the discs to reduce stopping distances. The system also features Brake Assistant, a program that supplies additional force during emergency stops.

The Boxster gets the added punch of the new 255-horsepower 2.9-liter horizontally opposed six-cylinder powerplant, a gain of 10 over last year's 245-horsepower 2.7-liter unit. The Boxster S is powered by a 3.4-liter six-cylinder that produces 310 horsepower, 15 more than the previous 3.4-liter engine.

Both base and S vehicles come with a six-speed manual transmission, while a new seven-speed automated manual gearbox, called Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe, or PDK, replaces the previous six-speed Tiptronic automatic. The paddle-shifted PDK not only lops a couple of tenths of a second off the six-speed-manual Boxster's zero-to-60-mph time, but also reduces overall fuel consumption by up to 16 percent.

Performance, style, and engineering improvements grace the new Boxster and represent true Porsche-style progress.

For more details and pricing information fill out the lead form on this link and see what special offers we can present you on the new Boxster: http://www.brianharrisporsche.com/campaign/2010-porsche-boxster.jsp

The Newest Member of the Family - Introducing the Porsche Panamera

The first four-door in the company's 61-year history, the Panamera will come to the U.S. in three forms: the S model, powered by a 400-hp, 4.8-liter naturally aspirated V-8; the 4S model which carries the same engine as the S, but comes with all-wheel; and the Turbo model which carries an all-wheel-drive, twin-turbocharged V-8 engine powering out 500 horses. Both models come with the PDK dual-clutch seven-speed transmission that was recently introduced in the 911.

The Panamera is equipped with a complete collection of Porsche driving aids, including stability control (Porsche Stability Management, or PSM), an adjustable damping system (Porsche Active Suspension Management, or PASM), and an adaptive air suspension with an active anti-roll stability system (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control, or PDCC), which is shared with the Cayenne sport-ute.

Just like serious sports cars, the Panamera is equipped with a launch-control system. All models also offer a Start/Stop system, which uses a conventional but higher-capacity starter motor. As soon as the Panamera comes to a stop, the system shuts off the engine, then restarts very softly when the driver lifts his foot off the brake. It's an industry first for V-8 engines and automatic transmissions.

The interior design, technology features and ergonomics is in a class of its own… Inside, the Panamera offers accommodations for four adults. The rear seats are eight-way power-adjustable units that not only recline but also feature adjustable thigh support and powered lumbar support. There are seat heaters and flow-through cooling fans in the bottom cushions and backrests. The Panamera's cockpit and console comes with a sleek design of push button controls and a conveniently placed Navigation screen. Options available to upgrade the Panamera include Bluetooth, Front/Rear Camera Park Assist, Burmester Surround Sound System, and a host of other features and amenities.

For more information and details click on this link: http://www.brianharrisporsche.com/campaign/2010-porsche-panamera.jsp

The New Brian Harris Porsche website is launched!

Brian Harris BMW has launched a new and improved web site.
